Rules verified Oct 17, 2026 · 2026 poverty guidelines, 48 states
RAP payment on $110,000 income: single, no dependents
RAP: $916.67 a month in year one. IBR: $717.17 (10% version).
How the numbers come out
- $110,000 falls in RAP's 10% band, so the yearly base payment is 10% of the whole amount: $11,000.00 a year, or $916.67 a month.
- IBR counts only income above $23,940 (150% of the 2026 poverty line for one person): 10% of the rest is $717.17 a month, or $1,075.75 at the 15% rate for borrowers who owed a federal loan on July 1, 2014. IBR can't go above the 10-year standard payment.
- In year one, IBR's payment (10% version) is $199.50 a month lower than RAP's.
- With a $20,000 balance, the RAP payment pays the loan off in 2 years, faster than the 10-year Standard plan.
